How to make a UPI QR code
- Enter your UPI ID. You'll find it on the profile page of Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm or your bank app.
- Add your name as you want the payer to see it.
- Optionally add a fixed amount and a note, like "Rent for November 2026".
- Download the poster to print or send, or share the pay link on WhatsApp.
QR code with amount, or without?
With an amount, the payer scans and the amount is already filled in. Use it for fixed payments like rent, maintenance or a deposit, so nobody types ₹2,700 instead of ₹27,000.
Without an amount, the payer types what they owe. Use it for a shop counter or anything that changes each time.
Collecting rent by UPI
UPI is the simplest way to collect rent in India: free for both sides, instant, and every payment has a transaction reference (UTR) that proves it happened. Make a QR with the rent amount and a note like "Rent for November 2026", and the note shows up in both your bank statements. That makes rent receipts and tax time much easier.
Always check that the money reached your bank before you count it as paid. A screenshot is not money, and fake payment screenshots are easy to make.
Questions
Is this UPI QR code free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no fee and no limit. The QR code is made in your browser and points straight to your UPI ID, so money goes from the payer to your bank account with nothing in between.
Will it work with Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm?
Yes. It uses the standard UPI QR format from NPCI, so any UPI app can scan it: Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, Amazon Pay, CRED and bank apps.
Can I put a fixed amount in the QR code?
Yes. Add an amount and the payer sees it filled in when they scan. Leave it blank for a QR that works for any amount. A QR with an amount is handy for rent, because it is the same every month.
Is a UPI QR code safe to share?
A UPI QR code can only receive money. It holds your UPI ID and name, the same as telling someone your UPI ID. Never scan a QR code to receive money: if someone asks you to scan a code or enter your PIN to get paid, it is a scam.
Why share a pay link instead of the QR?
A QR code needs a second phone to scan it. If your tenant is paying from the same phone they read WhatsApp on, they can't scan. The pay link opens a page with a Pay button that launches their UPI app, plus the QR and a copy button as backup.
An app says it cannot pay through the link. What now?
Some UPI apps block payment links to personal UPI IDs to fight fraud. The payer can scan the QR from another phone, or copy the UPI ID and pay it from inside their app. Both always work.
Are there charges for receiving money by UPI QR?
No. Person-to-person UPI payments to a savings account are free. Banks set daily limits, usually ₹1 lakh a day for regular payments.
Is my UPI ID stored anywhere?
No. The QR code and poster are made on your device. If you share a pay link, your details sit after the # in the link, which browsers don't send to our server.
